The picture my gradmother is holding, the one from the previous page, was purchased by my her at a nearby shop in 1953 (Ethiopian calendar; or 1941 European calendar) for 75 cents (Ethiopian birr). Each side unfolds to reveal a mirror. It could be found in every urban Ethiopian woman's house at that time. It has lived with her now for 43 years. It will be inherited by my father.
